Mount Seymour’s Role in Snowboarding Culture
Mount Seymour holds a special place in snowboarding history on the North Shore. Long before snowboarding became fully mainstream, Seymour was known as a mountain that welcomed riders early and helped give the sport space to grow. That openness mattered. It allowed snowboarders to develop their own style, community, and identity at a time when the culture was still forming.
The mountain’s natural terrain—short laps, playful transitions, and accessible pitches—made it a perfect environment for freestyle progression. Over the years, Seymour became a proving ground where riders learned tricks, filmed clips, and pushed each other to progress. Night riding sessions, park laps after school or work, and endless repetitions built a culture rooted in consistency, creativity, and camaraderie.

Why the Park Crew Matters
Snowboard culture, especially men’s snowboard culture, has always been deeply tied to terrain parks. Parks are where style develops, where progression happens, and where friendships are built session by session. None of that exists without dedicated park crews.
The Mount Seymour park staff work behind the scenes shaping landings, fixing features, and keeping the park riding properly day after day. It’s early mornings, long nights, cold hands, and constant problem-solving—all to create a space where riders can express themselves and progress safely.
